X-Band Ship Terminal at Pacific Maritime Expo

Acutec will exhibit Sea Tel's compact 1 meter shipboard X-Band satellite terminal at Sydney's Pacific 2012 International Maritime Conference later this month. The antenna is based on their highly successful and now ubiquitous 09 series VSAT antenna, a type deployed on hundreds of commercial, Navy and government vessels worldwide.

With X-Band radio and modem equipment, the terminal has been designed to access the US/Australian Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) system as well as the X-Band transponders on Australia's Optus C1 satellite. It is 100% Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) and is available now.

Larger Navy vessels have had the benefit of X-Band communications for some years now, but not the many patrol boats, mine hunters, customs vessels and other smaller Navy and government resources deployed around the Australian coast. For these boats, the various Inmarsat systems with their high-cost, usage-based charging structures are currently the only practical method of communication after leaving port.

The Sea Tel X-Band terminal opens up the possibility of large cost savings by allowing these smaller classes of vessel to access and share the government-owned satellite bandwidth, whilst creating a single, secure network environment for all government and Naval assets.

As well as the 1m X-Band-only version shown, the system can be supplied in a 1.5m variant or with a combined X and Ku band feed, allowing flexible access to commercial satellite bandwidth. Sea Tel also produce a range of Ka band satellite antennas.

The 4009 X-Band terminal will be on display at the Acutec Stand 6D6 at the Pacific Maritime 2012 Conference exhibition from 31 January to 2 February 2012 at Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour.
